We’ve got some news for y’all and we’re pretty darn excited about it! Today we are officially a member of 1% for the Planet, an organization that connects businesses and consumers with nonprofits, to create positive change for the planet and its people.
One Percent For The Planet: an organization that knows how to make a difference.
Here’s how it works: You buy our goods, and we contribute 1% of our gross income from those goods to sustainability-based nonprofits each year. 1% for the Planet verifies that we make these contributions, as a way to guarantee we’re following through on our commitment. It’s simple and impactful.
When we started Gitchi, we created a business bucket list of sorts, and joining 1% for the Planet was at the top of that list. With our strong commitment to sustainability, we knew that we wanted to be in constant pursuit of creating sustainably-made, durable products from responsible materials. This was of utmost importance, but we also knew that this wasn’t enough.
We know that the creation of any product impacts our planet adversely, as every step of the supply chain uses resources and creates greenhouse gases. Joining 1% for the Planet lets us take a second approach to sustainability, allowing us to help combat climate change, caused by the creation of products as well as other human activities.

So as of today, we are proud to be contributing at least 1% of our gross income to organizations that are doing the good work to preserve our planet and care for its people. We feel that directly contributing funds to the people that are already working on the “front lines” of important sustainability issues is the best model of giving and service we can follow. These are the organizations that have the knowledge, skills, and passion to create change. These are the organizations that have proven outcomes for the work they’re doing. These are the organizations with track records of impactful change. They just need the financial support. We want to help provide that support and we want our customers to know that they are helping, too.
